A Brilliant Future

A safe place near me… That is what the children at the neighborhood houses of Brilliant Detroit say to describe what these homes mean to them.

It is a simple but wonderful idea. A homeowner volunteers their space to host activities for the community.

It was a pleasure to visit the home on Hampstead Road, a 30 year old man owns the house and since he mainly uses the rooms upstairs has been kind enough to allow the use of his kitchen and living areas as well as the yard for cooking, coloring, doing homework, teaching classes, tutoring, gathering and learning new things.

Brilliant Detroit will vet the home and provide all the infrastructure for the development of programs targeting neighborhoods with lack of after school scholastic and mentoring environments.

Last time we were there we attended a tea party for mothers of young children, they sat down and sipped their tea while the kids ran outside and enjoyed the different activities offered by the volunteers.

I encourage you to learn more by visiting BrilliantDetroit.org where you can see smiles of all ages.
